About Horizon Europe: Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment

Horizon Europe Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment-cluster has been created to support project working towards reaching the sustainable development goals (SDGs). To ensure this projects must fit with one of the following 6 specific destinations:

Land, oceans and water for climate action

Achieving climate neutrality by reducing GHG emissions, maintaining natural carbon sinks, and enhancing the sequestration and storage of carbon in ecosystems, including unfolding the potential of nature-based solutions, production systems on land and at sea.

Biodiversity and ecosystem services

Biodiversity will be put back on a path to recovery, and ecosystems and their services are preserved and sustainably restored on land, inland water and at sea. This will happen through improved knowledge and innovation.

Circular economy and bioeconomy sectors. Clean environment and zero pollution

Through sustainable and circular management and use of natural resources as well as prevention and removal of pollution are mainstreamed, the potential of the bioeconomy will be unlocked. Also, a better understanding of planetary boundaries and deployment of innovative technologies and other solutions, such as in primary production, forestry and bio-based systems.

Fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food systems from primary production to consumption

Ensuring food and nutrition security for all within the planetary boundaries. This is achieved through knowledge, innovation and digitalization in agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture and food systems.

Resilient, inclusive, healthy and green rural, coastal and urban communities

In future rural, coastal and urban areas will be developed in a sustainable, balanced and inclusive way. It will be based on a better understanding of environmental and socio- economic drivers of change as well as use of digital, social and community-led innovations.

Innovative governance, environmental observations and digital solutions in support of the Green Deal

The innovative governance models will enable sustainability and resilience. They will be established and monitored through enhanced and shared use of new knowledge, tools, foresight, and environmental observations as well as digital, modelling and forecasting capabilities.
